I read an article this morning about John McCain that really troubled me. I am not by any means a supporter of McCain and really can not believe I am giving my time or credence to anything involving him. However, the New York Times article was about an alledged relationship with a lobbyist named Vicki Iseman. This relationship allegedly occurred prior to McCain’s bid for the White House in 2000. My question and I am sure one that troubles many other Americans is what the hell does that have to do with this 2008 Presidential election. As Barack Obama states “this is a time for change”. Change does not only have to come in the government but many other things have to also change such as stupid, unsubstantiated, outdated reporting in the media. This reporting is always substantiated in their eyes by some dissatisfied former employee or a close friend with whom something personal was shared. People hate the rap songs about no snitching to the police. Someone should cut a new song about no snitching to the media or newspapers. But then again a lot of times the media pays well and in many cases make the snitcher famous. I guess there is some benefit to being a deceitful friend, betraying a friend’s trust or just flat out lying which in some cases have comeback to bite the media in the ass. The media still does not get it. People don’t care about Bill Clinton, Barack Obama or anyone else smoking pot 25 years ago. Please excuse me for not knowing 25 years ago while I was in high school or college that I would be a candidate for public office. Sounds stupid well it is stupid and this is what bothers me because the media gives me stupid news.
You know earlier this month actor Denzel Washington did something that was very news worthy. Denzel and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States. The families of the soldiers stay in hotels on the base called Fisher Houses. There is little or no charge to stay in these Fisher Houses which are usually filled most of the time. While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. Denzel inquired as to the cost to build a Fisher House and then took his checkbook and wrote a check for the full amount to build a new Fisher House at BAMC.
Well, I guess Denzel’s good deed is not as important as Britney Spears buying a pregnancy test kit, losing her kids, overdosing, Nicole Richie being pregnant, driving the wrong way on the interstate highway, Lindsay Lohan crashing her car for the second or third time or Paris spending a few day in jail and then sharing her experience with David Letterman and Jay Leno.
I guess good deeds are boring and pot smoking, mischief acts by adults is the hot thing. That says a lot about what the media think is important to the public.
